BESTOMR FIELD NOTES

How to turn sheet music into MIDI

Read the notes from printed sheet music, check the conversion, then export a MIDI file for playback or further work.

Sheet music and MIDI describe different things

Printed notation shows how music is written. MIDI represents performance events such as note pitches and timing. BestOMR first recognizes the printed notation, then creates a MIDI export from that recognized score. It does not transcribe an audio recording.

From page to MIDI

  1. Upload a clear PDF, PNG or JPG of printed staff notation.
  2. Wait for recognition, then compare the result with your original and listen to it.
  3. Download MIDI from the review page and open it in your preferred DAW or MIDI player.

Why review comes before export

If recognition reads the wrong pitch or rhythm, that error will also be present in the MIDI. Listen for missing notes and incorrect durations, and check the written result. For detailed corrections, download MusicXML, edit it in a notation application and export MIDI from the corrected score.

What MIDI does not preserve

MIDI is useful for note playback and arrangement, but it does not preserve the full score’s engraving, lyrics, layout or all written markings. Use MusicXML when your goal is an editable notated score.

Read the PDF-to-MusicXML guide for input preparation and a review checklist.
